With the purpose of the further activation of scientific activity at university in 2002 the Scientific research institute of food technologies was created. It consists of problem scientific research laboratory on creation of foodstuffs of new generation, scientific research laboratory of food safety, scientific research laboratory of laser activation of technological processes.
Scientific research laboratory of food safety has been organized within the carrying out of the international project “Tempus”, and the main problems of the laboratory are study and control the quality of the created new food products, expertise of ecological and food safety of new generation products.
In 2004 the Scientific research institute of problems of light industry was formed and it consists of scientific research laboratory of wool estimation, scientific manufacturing center of garment technologies, scientific laboratory on national consumption goods and products safety.
At the university all the conditions for development of scientific potential of students have been provided. Scientific researches of students are united into project groups at student scientific department. The results of scientific research work of students are concluded at annual “Week science of ATU students”, which includes the conducting of competitions, exhibitions. The best students works are recommended to the publication in magazine «Food technology and service» and directed for participation in republican and international competitions.
