The departments carry out preparation in the field of technology of food production, processing of meat and dairy products, conservations of food raw material and products, technologies of fermentive production and winemaking, biotechnology, merchandizing and examination of quality of consumer goods, standardization of food products.
A training of staff with high special education is carried out on specialties:

Professor, candidate of technical sciences Kizatova Maigul Zhalelovna has been appointed as the dean of the new department of processing of food raw material. Since 2004 has been started preparation of bachelors and masters on new specialities: «Technology of food products», «Technology of processing production», «Standardization, metrology and certification», «Biotechnology».
At the department there functions the scientific research institute (SRI) of food technologies. The SRI is headed by doctor of technical sciences, professor Erkebaev M.Zh.. Big contribution to the development of the department has been made by the professors Iztaev A.I., Repp K.R., Vitavskaja A.V., Khozhamuratova S.Sh., Velyamov M.T. and others.

As the basis of professional practice of students the small and large enterprises of various patterns of ownership are defined: joint-stock company "Bahus", joint-stock company "Rahat", milk plants «Zhiger» and "Smak", joint-stock company "Almaty-meet", JSC “Corporation “Altyn-Dirmen”, CPC “Aksay”, Winery Ltd "Dionis", winery «Kargalinskyie vina», Тalgarskyi distillery, joint-stock company «Almaty beer factory №1», bread plants, Centers of standardization and certification, factories «Pepsi-Cola», "Drinks", fruit-cannery, company "Phillip Moris" and others. Many heads of the above-mentioned enterprises Karapetjan A.M., Popeljushko A.V., Mnatsakanjan R.G., Khalina V.I., Maralov A.B., Kaliyeva N.M. and others read lectures, realize supervision over diploma papers of students, participate at work of state attestation commission.
The department has the modern material base and provides educational process in conditions of constantly increasing contingent of students.
Today in the Republic and far beyond of its boundaries a name of ATU graduate of 1988 year of specialty “Technology and organization of public feed”, Abdraimov Farhat Nursultanovich, the main hero of film “Fara” is famous.
The graduates of the department work successfully ay JSC Corporation “Altyn Dermen”. Its supervising and engineering technological staff, working fruitfully at responsible post of elevator, milling plant, bakery plant, macaroni plant, animal feed mill in manufacturing laboratories were forming from graduates of ATU.
Graduates of department work in educational establishments, in scientific research institutes, state and private enterprises as teachers, science researchers, process engineers on the production of foodstuff, processing and storage vegetative and cattle-breeding production and raw material, experts on examination and certification of the goods, supervisors of enterprises and firms.
