In accordance with the Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of the RK #341from June 20th, 2006 “ About conducting experiment in basic educational institutions on the implementation of the experimental programmes” Almaty Technological university has been performing teaching students on distant learning since2006/2007
In 2006 on distant form of teaching there were transferred the 1st course students of distant learning on 14 specialties. Overall contingent of the students comprised 110 people.
For the realization of the Order of the Ministry of Education and Science of the RK in the University there was created special academic centre on distant teaching ( ATU order #12-2-41 from 14 .07.06) and developed a plan of the implementation of distant form of learning for 2006/2007- 2008/2009 academic years ( ATU order #12-2-55 from 12.09.06)
Distant learning is an educational technology, providing high quality distant education when students without leaving production have the possibility to incessantly maintain links with the university and obtain full complex of teaching materials due to modern information technologies (CD, E-mail, chats, the Internet, TV-technology and others)

On the first stage of distant teaching students are offered case–technology providing the formation of the set of teaching materials (course cases), which gives the opportunity for professional training of the student according to the chosen specialty and also the possibility to study on net technology.
Course case is a set of teaching materials on all disciplines predetermined by the syllabus of the specialty and the course on Cassette Discs.
Preparation of the teaching materials for the course case on specialties is realized according to the confirmed syllabus and curricular in strict compliance with the state educational standards.
The course case contains the following material:
1. Academic calendar of the teaching process
2. Syllabus of the course, including the list of disciplines and exams for the corresponding academic year
3. Teaching complex for all disciplines included in curricular, that is
- Syllabus of the course discipline
- Methodology guide and material for laboratory, practical and seminar work
- Tasks for independent work
- Tests and questions for self control and passing exams
Set technology allows a student to obtain all the above mentioned teaching materials and also to interactively associate with a teacher through the Internet with the help of “Prometey and “Tamos University Suite” systems, established at the University.
