Regulation on the Contest of Almaty Technological University (ATU) for students of final classes of secondary schools on compulsory subjects
1. General Regulations
1. This regulation of Almaty technological university contest for students of final classes of secondary schools in general educational subjects (hereafter - Regulations) determine the organization and holding of the Contest of Almaty Technological University (hereinafter - the Contest), its organizational, methodological and financial support, participation in the Contest and determine the winners.
2. The main aims and objectives of the Contest are to create the necessary conditions to support gifted children and provide social support when entering the Almaty technological university to continue their studies at a university, the identification and development of student creativity and interest in research, promotion of scientific knowledge.
3. Voluntarily enrolled graduate classes (11th classes) of secondary schools take part in the Contest.
4. The Contest is held on general subjects: physics, mathematics, chemistry, biology, geography.
2. Carrying out an order
1. The Contest is carried out in three stages:
The first round – registration of secondary schools students of the 11th form for participation in ATU Contest on one of general educational subjects for participant choice.
The second round – carrying out of selection round in the form of testing on one of the chosen general educational subjects on UNT technology.
The third round – carrying out of final written examination and determination of ATU Contest winners (1st,2nd and 3rd places in each general educational subject)
2. Registration in the first round of the ATU Contest are held for all comers, studying in the 11th form of the secondary school.
3. The second and the third rounds of the ATU Contest are held under the tasks made on the basis of general educational programs, realized on steps of the basic secondary education (further – Contest tasks).
4. Winners of the second and third rounds of the ATU Contest are defined on the basis of results of the ATU Contest participants which are brought in the total table of participants’ results of corresponding stages of the ATU Contest , representing the ranged list of the participants located up to decrease arrangement of points typed by them (further – the total table). Participants with equal quantity of points settle down in alphabetic order.
5. The minimum point of the 2nd round granting the right to participate in the 3rd round of the Contest is established not below 25 points. Test tasks contain 25 questions, thus each question is estimated as 1 point. Time of carrying out of testing on UNT technology in the chosen subject by the participant is 1 hour. Students who have pointed not less than 17 points are allowed to take part in the 3rd round of the Contest.
6. The maximal point of the 3rd round is established as 25 points, 5 points on each of 5 tasks of the written control work. Time of carrying out of written examination is 2 hours.
7. The first 3 participants of the Contest in each subject specified in item 4 of the second section of the present Regulation, pointed the highest quantity of points according to the list of the total table becomes the prize-winners of the 3rd round of the Contest.
8. Samples of the 3rd round winners’ diplomas of the Contest are affirmed by rector of ATU.
9. The general management of the Contest and its organizational maintenance is carried out by organizing committee and the subject commission (jury) of the Contest of Almaty technological university.
10. The structure of the Contest committee is formed of representatives of ATU, Education Department, Council of ATU Trustees, ATU graduates, Youth organization of ATU and is affirmed by rector of ATU.
11. Organizing committee of the Contest:
- Makes offers on dates of carrying out of the Contest in each general educational subject and Contest stages; on structure of the Contest’s subject commissions (jury).
- Defines the winners of the 2nd round and the 3rd final round of the Contest;
- Analyzes, generalizes results of the Contest and gives the report on the Contest carrying out to rector of ATU;
- Prepares materials for illumination of the Contest organization and carrying out in mass media.
12. Methodical maintenance of the Contest carrying out in general educational subjects is carried out by the subject commissions (jury) of the Contest. The structure of the Contest subject commissions (jury) is formed of number of ATU scientific and pedagogical workers.
13. The Contest subject commissions (jury):
- Develop methodical recommendations about tasks drawing up and texts of the Contest tasks (tests, written examinations), criteria and techniques of an estimation executed Contest tasks.
- Define the form of carrying out and technical maintenance of the 2nd and the 3rd rounds of the Contest.
The first round – registration of participants in the ATU Contest for students of the 11th classes of secondary schools on one of general educational subjects for the participant choice is carried out by ATU selection committee.
14. Checking and estimation of executed Contest tasks are carried out by the subject commissions (jury) of the Contest. The subject commissions (jury) deliver reports on results of carrying out of the 2nd and the 3rd rounds of the Contest to organizing committee of the Contest. The list of winners of the 2nd and the 3rd rounds of the Contest is affirmed by the Contest organizing committee.
3. Rewarding of the Contest winners.
1. The quota on quantity of Contest winners is defined by rector of ATU and makes:
in general educational subjects:
Physics – 1,2 and 3 places;
Mathematics – 1,2 and 3 places;
Chemistry - 1,2 and 3 places;
Biology - 1,2 and 3 places;
Geography - 1,2 and 3 places.
2. When entering ATU the winners of the Contest on each of the general educational subjects specified in item 1 of the third section of the present Regulation, under the decision of ATU rector, who took the 1st ,2nd or 3rd place and accordingly awarded with diplomas of the 1st ,2nd and 3rd degrees have the right within current year to reception of the nominal Grant of ATU rector under condition of entering Almaty technological university on a paid basis:
- The winners who took 1st place – 100 % from training cost on the chosen specialty.
- The winners who took 2nd place – 50 % from training cost on the chosen specialty.
- The winners who took 3rd place – 20 % from training cost on the chosen specialty.
3. The report on carrying out and Contest results is made by organizing committee, is affirmed by ATU rector and is placed on web site of ATU in section "Entrant".
